EPP again

Stalo sie to mozliwe dzieki 3 bloggerkom: Jayne z Twiggy and Opal,  Svetlany z s.o.t.a.k handmade i ostatniej, jakkolwiek nie mniej waznej – Mollie z Wild Olive.

My first EPP  (English Paper Piecing) work was not the big success. But I didn’t completely give up and knew that one day I will approach EPP again. Thanks to 3 bloggers this try has happened: Jayne from Twiggy and Opal,  Svetlana from s.o.t.a.k handmade and last but not least Mollie from Wild Olive.

When I saw Svetlana’s take on those EPP plusses I knew I have to try do some as well. Still having some fabrics from Jennifer Sampou’s first Shimmer collection I decided to go ahead.

Mozna rozmawiac i cieszyc sie wspolnym towarzystwem i troche szyc.

I printed templates made by Mollie, cut the fabrics and started basting. I know that I have said it before, but I’m going to repeat it again – I really enjoy those portable projects, especially during this time of the year, when you do travel and spend the whole day with family not necessarily doing anything. You can talk and enjoy other’s company and do some stitching.

I jestem zadowolona z rezultatu.

I’m going to make 23 plusses / crosses – I hope that will be enough to make the pillow cover. I basted all pieces when visiting my family in Poland. I didn’t manage to stitch them all together but I’m pretty far – 15 out of those 23 is completed. And I’m pretty happy about the result. Could it be that EPP just like all other crafts requires practice in order to get better?

Zobaczymy…

I’m not going to sew the plusses together. I was so happy about making modern hexies that I’m going to glue plusses to the background fabric as well. I also like that there is a bit of space in between them and I hope that the quilting will add as much as in case of modern hexies. However I haven’t decided yet how to do the quilting. Vertical and horizontal lines or maybe a kind of cross-hatch. Who knows…

  1. OMG! I cannot wait to see how you finish this! I love the idea of neutrals, but especially love the modern hexie approach for quilting the plus blocks. Please share…I just finished my EPP Plus project and look forward to making many more one day soon!

  2. Very nice. You have a very good eye for combining colours and prints. I think your version once finished will be equally as striking as Svetlana’s. I have not tried EPP at all and can’t see myself doing it either. I’m too impatient. But I am looking forward to following your progress.

  3. What beautiful fabrics, this is going to be a lovely cushion! I’ve also have been inspired by Twiggy & Opal’s latest EPP project and must do some myself, love your idea of not sewing them together, but quilting them, can’t wait to see how you finish it!
