Midnight Mystery quilt – Courthouse Steps block

Jeszcze jeden miesiac do nadgonienia. Cheryl z Meadow Mist Designs zdazyla juz opublikowac listopadowe instrukcje, a ja ciagle jeszcze walczylam z pazdziernikowymi. Pazdziernikowe zadanie polegalo na uszyciu 9 calkiem duzych (19×19 cali) blokow zwanych Courthouse Steps i oto one w calej okazalosci.

I’m still one month behind. Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs has already published November instructions and I was still struggling with October ones. The task in October was to make 9 quite big (19×19″) Courthouse Steps units and here they are.

Postanowilam zaszalec i zakupic nowa 1/4-calowa stopke do mojej maszyny w celu uzyskania wiekszej precyzji, po czym mimo wszystko kontynuowalam szycie z uzyciem mojej standardowej patchworkowej stopki. Powod?

The block itself is not difficult as long as one can sew straight lines and keep consistent seam allowances. I have decided to purchase a new 1/4″ foot for my sewing machine in order to be more accurate in piecing but ended up using the standard patchwork foot anyway. The reason was more experience with sewing with the old foot and to make sure that I’m consistent with seam allowances not only within those blocks but also the ones I have already made before (flying geese and square in a square).

Rozmiar bloku komplikuje troszke szycie.

The size of the block made sewing a bit more complex. I decided to go for chain piecing and I must admit that it was a kind of a workout for my arms. I was tired, but still glad to make some physical workout after being more or less sick constantly during the past few weeks.

Na szczescie nowe instrukcje juz wkrotce – 3-go grudnia.

I think it would be nice to make those blocks in a bit smaller size, but in this case Cheryl probably has some specific plan using 19″ squares. I’m really curious what is going to happen with them and how the whole quilt top is going to come together. Luckily new instructions are coming soon, already on the 3rd of December.

  2. It looks like this will actually be a pretty big quilt when it is finished! I have found that switching to a patchwork foot has significantly increased my accuracy, but I understand what you mean with having the comfort of sewing with the foot that you usually work with. Great blocks… I just adore the Katharina Roccella prints!

  3. I’m exactly in the same spot as you. I still have to trim my square in a square blocks and then I can start sewing things together. Your courthouse steps look great. I like the large size of these blocks although it does make it hard to store them out of the way somewhere.
