Finished project {Elephant and Giraffe cross stitch}

Wlasciwie pierwszy zestaw zostal dostarczony juz jakis czas temu. Zdjecia i szczegoly sa tutaj.

Number 4 on my Q4 finish list – 2 sets of Elephant and Giraffe cross stitch – is finished. Actually the first set has been delivered already some time ago. The pictures and details of this set can be found here.

Slon i Zyrafa

Drugi slon zgodnie z moim planem mial byc caly niebiesko-szary, jednak w trakcie haftowania zdecydowalam sie dodac troche zywszego koloru – tym razem byl to musztardowy odcien zolci.

I was planning to make the second elephant only in blues and greys, but while stitching it I decided to add more vibrant color as well – this time it was mustard yellow. I love the final result, I think that it’s my favorite cross stitch made up to date. The colors are soft but distinct and I expect it to look nice in the white wooden frame hanging on the white wall.

Mialam klopot z druga Zyrafa.

I had some more troubles with Giraffe. I gave up the green and decided to go with some other blues and greys but there was again not enough contrast. Just like the other quilters / makers I have my very favorite color palette (navy, blue, teal, grey, cream) and find it’s quite difficult to apply some other colors. I try to go out of my comfort zone as often as possible just to find out that I do like other color combinations too. But my color choices are rather intuitive; I miss some background in the color theory. Are there any good sources regarding this topic you would recommend?

Mam ciagle dwa tygodnie do urodzin mojej pociechy. Czy to normalne, jesli zrobie nowa wersje?

I ended up adding additional color – kind of between coral and orange. I like it, but I don’t love it as much as the elephant. There are still 2 weeks to Jakob’s birthday. Do you think I’m crazy if I make a new version?

Patterns from Red Gate Stitchery work fine for me, easy to read and including useful information for beginners (fabric and thread selection, needles and other tools as well as stitching basics). And as I mentioned already in my previous post, those patterns are also beginners friendly.

  1. I love to cross stitch but finishing cross stitch is not my strong point. I am so jealous of your ability to finish these. Visiting as part of the 2016 FAL Cheerleading team. Thanks for participating.
