2015/2016 Midnight Mystery Quilt

Niedawno odkrylam blog Cheryl – Meadow Mist Designs. Mysle, ze tworzy ona niesamowite quilty i projekty. Wiec kiedy zobaczylam post o tajemniczym quilcie 2015, bylam sprzedana od razu.

Recently I have discovered Cheryl’s blog – Meadow Mist Designs. I think that she is an amazing quilter and designer. So when I saw an announcement about this year’s mystery quilt, I jumped in right away.

Jest wiele powodow, dla ktorych postanowilam sie przylaczyc: 1) Bardzo podobaja mi sie projekty Cheryl, 2) Jako ze przylaczam sie z pewnym opoznieniem, widzialam dwa pierwsze bloke i pomyslalam, ze bedzie to idealny sposob na nauczenie sie nowych technik i blokow (nigdy wczesniej nie probowalam gesi w locie albo kwadrata w kwadracie), a instrukcje Cheryl sa bardzo jasne i latwe w uzyciu, 3) Wspolne szycie jest przyjemne, zwlaszcza wzajemne inspirowanie, dobre rady i wsparcie, 4) Proces wspolnego szycia nie jest zbyt wymagajacy, szyjemy jeden rodzaj bloku w ciagu miesiaca (gesi w locie w sierpniu, kwadrat w kwadracie we wrzesniu, itd.), co jest osiagalne bez stresu i zbyt wielu terminow.

There are several reasons for that: 1) I like Cheryl’s designs, 2) As I’m joining relatively late I saw the first two blocks and thought that it would be a perfect way to learn new techniques and blocks (I have never tried flying geese or square in a square before) and Cheryl’s instructions are very clear and easy to follow, 3) It’s really cozy to make a quilt together with the others, share inspiration, good advices and support each other, 4) It’s easy going process, in which each month one type of block is made (flying geese in August, square in a square in September, etc.), which make it achievable without too much pressure and deadlines.

Wspolne szycie Tajemniczego Quiltu zaczelo sie juz w czerwcu, wiec jestem opozniona przynajmniej 3 miesiace. Mimo to wybor tkanin poszedl raczej gladko. Wybralam 5 tkanin i mialam nadzieje, ze uda mi sie je jakos polaczyc. Dlatego musialam niestety podejrzec project. Cheryl byla tez bardzo pomocna z radami w sprawie wyboru tkanin. Ostatecznie zdecydowalam sie na 4 z 5 azeby quilt nie byl zbyt chaotyczny.

The Midnight Mystery Quilt Along had started already in June so I’m at least 3 months behind. But the fabric selection went pretty quick. I have selected 5 fabrics and hoped I could combine them all. Therefore I needed to see sneak peak of the design. Cheryl was also very helpful with her advice in this matter. Finally I decided to use only 4 out of 5 fabrics as I wanted to avoid scrappy look.

 Tkanina A / Fabric A: Blomster in Mint – Mormor (Lotta Jansdotter); Tkanina B / Fabric B: Threaded Shreds in Dim – Indelible (Katarina Roccella); Tkanina C / Fabric C: Floret Stains in Tealberry – Indelible (Katarina Roccella); Tkanina D / Fabric D: Kona Ash – Robert Kaufman

Uwielbiam wszystkie wybrane tkaniny, ale nie mialam zadnych watpliwosci, ktora z nich jest numerem 5. Mysle, ze powyzsze 4 pasuja do siebie idealnie i stworza przepiekny quilt. Ale musze sie przyznac, ze ustalenie kolejnosci tkanin (A-B-C-D) zajelo mi troche czasu. Rada Cheryl byla taka, ze tkaniny A i B, B i C, C i D beda umieszczone obok siebie, wiec powinny z soba kontrastowac. Jestem przekonana, ze A i B oraz C i D sa kontrastujace. Co do B i C, zobaczymy.

I love all selected fabrics, but I was not in a doubt putting away the number 5. I think that those 4 fits perfectly each other and I hope they will make a beautiful quilt. But I need to admit that I used some time to figure out the sequence (fabric A-B-C-D). Cheryl’s advice was that fabrics A and B, B and C, C and D are placed next to each other, therefore there should be enough contrast between those. I’m pretty sure that there is enough contrast between A and B, and C and D. Let’s see how B and C will look next to each other.

Jestem bardzo zadowolona, ze gesi w locie byly pierwszym blokiem do uszycia. Nigdy wczesniej gesi nie szylam. Metoda bezodpadowa jest rewelacyjna – 9 zestawow, kazdy sklada sie z 4 gesi w locie. Niestety nie moge jej porownac z innymi metodami, ale moge was zapewnic, ze trudna nie jest. I co wazniejsze, nie zajmuje zbyt wiele czasu. Ale wymaga przycinania blokow. Jezeli tylko sa wystarczajaco duze, nie mam nic przeciwko!

I was very happy that flying geese was the first block to be made. I have never made flying geese before. I enjoyed no waste method of piecing flying geese – 9 sets of 4 blocks. I can’t compare it to the other methods, but I can assure you that it was not difficult to piece. And what is most important, it didn’t take too long time. But blocks required some trimming afterwards. As long as they are big enough, I’m fine with trimming!

Wiec mam 36 gesi w locie gotowych i zaczelam wycinac tkaniny do nastepnego bloku – kwadrata w kwadracie. Ten blok jest rowniez nowy dla mnie i nie moge sie doczekac, zeby go wyprobowac. A moze i wy sie przylaczycie do tego projektu?

Now 36 flying geese are ready and I’m cutting fabrics for the next block – square in a square. This block is also new for me so I’m really looking forward to try it out. Are you also joining this project?
